Surullista.”

Alla Turusen ja Cabulin alkuperäinen vastaus:

Around three years ago we got a phone call from the record company in Germany willing to do a special version of the album Once to celebrate the 10th anniversary of its release. Tarja was very happy to hear about the plans as she is very proud of that album in particular. Some of her favourites songs of her time in the band are part of “Once”.

We suggested that a complete collection of “Once” related songs should be part of the set. All existing songs used as b-sides in the singles released at the time, plus all promotional photos and album artworks (there was more than one) in order to prepare a nice packaging. We even offered to the record company if they would need some comments from Tarja for media, related to the album, that she was up to.

Unfortunately the answer we got was that Holopainen was not interested in doing that. Instead, they offered a double CD set including the album plus a bonus CD with the instrumental version of the album.

The album was not conceived that way and Tarja wanted to keep it in the form it was originally conceived, that is with ALL the members that took part of the recording. It felt absurd to celebrate 10 years of the album without one of the members, as absurd and humiliating it would have been to propose a release of the album in a version without keyboards or drums.

They didn’t propose to release an orchestral version of the album that would have been ONLY consisting in the orchestra. Their intention was to release the album with the orchestra, drums, guitar, bass and keyboards. Just no vocals. Sad.
